WHAT DOES A MASTERS PRACTICE LOOK LIKE?
More Time Rowing. More Time on the Water.
Our goal is simple: maximize your two-hour practice so you can spend as much time rowing as possible.
NEW TO ROWING?
We'll start by teaching proper rowing technique on the erg and in our training tank—an 8+ rowing shell that stays on land.
The tank allows new rowers to take what they've learned on the erg and practice those movements in an actual rowing shell before heading onto the water.
Once you're comfortable with the fundamentals, we'll transition you into a boat and onto Lake Jesup.
ALREADY KNOW HOW TO ROW?
Experienced rowers can spend the majority of their practice time on the water, with coaching focused on technique, efficiency, fitness, and boat skills.

WATER +
LAND TRAINING
Train the Way That Works for You.
Want to spend most of your sessions rowing? Great.
Prefer to use some sessions for land-based training and others on the water? You can do that too.
Masters practices may include:
-
On-the-water rowing
-
Erg training
-
Technique work
-
Training in our land-based 8+ tank
-
Strength and conditioning
-
Boat handling and rowing skills
Because this is SCAR's first Masters session, the exact training structure may evolve slightly as we learn more about what our Masters rowers want from the program.
Any adjustments will be made with one goal: creating the best possible training experience for the rowers.
WHAT ABOUT WEATHER?
Safety Comes First.
Our goal is to spend as much practice time on the water as conditions safely allow.
Florida weather doesn't always cooperate. If conditions make it unsafe to row, practice will transition to land-based training rather than putting crews on the water.
That means you can still get a productive training session even when Mother Nature changes the forecast.
WHO IS MASTERS ROWING FOR?
There's a Place in the Crew for You.
SCAR Masters is for adults interested in rowing, fitness, and being part of a team environment.
RETURNING ROWERS
You've rowed before and you're ready to get back into a boat.
EXPERIENCED ROWERS
You're looking for coached water time, fitness, technique work, and a crew to row with.
NEW ROWERS
You've never rowed before, but you're ready to learn. We'll introduce you to rowing technique on land before progressing to the water.
No matter where you're starting, the goal is to help you become comfortable, confident, and capable on the water.
WHY SCAR MASTERS?
Coached Training
Learn and improve with guidance from SCAR's coaching staff.
Maximum Water Time
When conditions allow, we want you in a boat—not standing around on land.
Flexible Schedule
Choose mornings, evenings, or both.
Pay for What You Use
Purchase session packs instead of committing to a full-season schedule.
Train at Your Level
Returning rowers and newer rowers can progress at an appropriate pace.
